Route 65: THE REBUILD - Springfield

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROJECT IN THE COMING WEEK:

• FINAL WEEK OF COMPLETE ROUTE 65 CLOSINGS

• Northbound Route 65 between Chestnut Expressway and Division Street set to reopen around 8 p.m. Sunday, 20

• Northbound Route 65 between Division Street and Kearney Street set to CLOSE around 8 p.m. Sunday, 20

• All northbound Route 65 traffic can and must exit at Division Street

• Both northbound Route 65 ramps at Kearney Street CLOSED August 20-27 

• Northbound Route 65 reduced to one lane between a point north of Battlefield Road and Division Street                                            

Work Scheduled:  

• Breaking up and removing concrete pavement in two northbound outside lanes of Route 65 between Division Street and Kearney Street early in the week
• Pouring new concrete for northbound outside lanes starting on Tuesday or Wednesday
• Pouring concrete to repair or rebuild Route 65 ramps at Kearney Street and at Division Street on Thursday or Friday.
• Crews working 24-hours a day with construction noise possible ‘round the clock 

Traffic Impacts:  

• ROAD CLOSED: Northbound Route 65 CLOSED between Division Street and Kearney Street
  • Closing time: 8 p.m. Sunday, August 20, until as late as 11:59 a.m. on Sunday, August 27
  • All northbound Route 65 traffic can and must exit at Division Street
  • Route 65 reduced to one lane between a point north of Battlefield Road and Division Street
• RAMPS CLOSED:
  • Both northbound ramps at the Route 65/Kearney Street interchange CLOSED; No access to northbound Route 65
  • Northbound on ramp from Division Street to Route 65 CLOSED
• ROUTE 65 DETOUR:
  • Signed detour using Route 60/360 to I-44
  • Alternate detour using Route 125 between Route 60 and I-44
  • During northbound Route 65 ramp closing at Kearney Street, drivers urged to use Route 744 and Glenstone Avenue to reach destinations including I-44
  • Drivers encouraged to find alternate routes to destinations inside Springfield including Glenstone Avenue, Kansas Expressway and West Bypass
• TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS:
• Located at Eastgate Avenue & Cherry Street, Eastgate Avenue & Catalpa Street, and LeCompte Road & Division Street intersections
• Drivers will experience delays at the intersections
• Traffic signals are temporary and will be removed when the closings of Route 65 are complete in late August/early September 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.) 

Project Summary:

• Rebuild outside two lanes in both directions of Route 65 between Kearney Street and Sunshine Street
• Route 65 CLOSED in segments (between interchanges) in one direction at a time from week of July 10 until first of September
• Northbound closings start on August 7 with completion by late August/early September
  • Northbound closed between Sunshine Street and Chestnut Expressway week of August 7 – COMPLETED
  • Northbound closed between Chestnut Expressway and Division Street week of August 14 -- COMPLETED
  • Northbound closed between Division Street and Kearney Street week of August 21
• Southbound closings started on July 10 and were complete on July 30
  • Southbound closed between Kearney and Division Streets week of July 10 -- COMPLETED
  • Southbound closed between Division Street and Chestnut Expressway week of July 17 – COMPLETED
  • Southbound closed between Chestnut Expressway and Sunshine Street week of July 24 – COMPLETED
• Rebuild or repair interchange ramps
• Upgrade guardrail
• Rebuild outside shoulders
• Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, LLC of St. Charles, Mo.
• Completion Date: November 2017
• Total Project Cost: $7.9 million
