St. Louis Work Zones for August 31-September 6

ST. LOUIS – Motorists leaving St. Louis City trying to get an early travel start for Labor Day should give themselves extra time as MoDOT will close more than two miles of westbound I-44. Starting Friday, September 1 at 10 p.m., all lanes of westbound I-44 from the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to the Poplar Street Bridge will close so crews can remove barrier wall and restripe lanes. All lanes of westbound I-44 and southbound I-55 from the Poplar Street Bridge to the I-44/I-55 split will also be closed. Drivers will only be able to continue on I-70 to the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge or exit to Tucker.

The I-70 express lanes will also close Friday, September 1 at 7 p.m. and the following will close starting at 9 p.m.:

  • The ramp from Washington Avenue to westbound I-44.
  • The South Memorial Drive ramp to westbound I-44/southbound I-55.
  • The ramp from westbound Poplar Street Bridge to southbound I-55/westbound I-44.
  • The ramp from westbound Poplar Street Bridge to Walnut/eastbound I-44.

All lanes are expected to reopen by Saturday, September 2 at noon.

Otherwise, the majority of construction work on state routes will stop starting Friday, September 1 at noon for the Labor Day holiday weekend.  This does not include locations where work zones have permanent lane closures or barriers up. Those will remain in place.  Work will resume around the region on Tuesday, September 5 at 9 a.m.

For additional work zone information and real-time roadway weather conditions, go to http://traveler.modot.org/map.  For real-time traffic, visit www.gatewayguide.com. All work is weather permitting and may be shifted due to inclement weather.
