MACON – In response to traffic safety concerns, MoDOT is reducing two bridges to one-lane traffic on Missouri Route 15 in Scotland County.
The bridge over Gunn’s Branch, located just north of Memphis on MO 15, will be striped and signed as one-lane, as well as the bridge over the North Fork Wyaconda River, located north of Scotland County Route BB.
“These bridges are very narrow, and this lane reduction is for the safety of motorists,” said Assistant District Engineer Kevin James. “These changes will make the traffic control conform to the way many people already travel across these bridges,” he added. This lane reduction also limits vehicles crossing the bridge at the same time, which will extend the life of the bridge.
Within the next few weeks, motorists can expect to see crews out getting ready to install signs and change the striping on the bridges.
Please use caution if you will be traveling through these areas. And always remember to obey the speed limit on the road, and slow down to travel around curves.
In addition, some work has been programmed in the State Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) to take place in Scotland County over the next few years. The projects planned are:
- MO 15 – Bridge improvements over South Wyaconda River (2019-2020).
- MO 15 – Pavement improvements from U.S. Route 136 west jct. at Memphis to Missouri Route 6 at Edina (2019-2020).
- Scotland County Route M – Bridge improvements at Indian Creek near Rutledge (2018-2019).
