Greene County – Drivers can expect lane closings and crews and equipment on Greene County Routes AB and EE west of Springfield starting the week of September 11, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Routes EE and AB are scheduled to be resurfaced with a new asphalt driving surface. The project also includes adding two-foot wide shoulders and rumble stripes along both roads.
Here’s a look at the projects:
- Route AB will be resurfaced between Route 160 in Willard and Route 266 west of Springfield.
- Route EE will be resurfaced between West Bypass and Route AB west of Springfield.
- New guardrail will be installed on Route EE at the bridge over I-44. During that work, drivers can expect one-lane traffic ‘round the clock with temporary traffic signals.
During the week of September 11, crews will grind off the top layer of asphalt on both roads, preparing for the resurfacing which could start toward the end of the week or the beginning of the week of September 18. Crews will work during daytime hours during the grinding work.
When the resurfacing portion of the project begins, crews will switch to night work. Crews will be on the road from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be on the road Monday through Friday. They could work on Saturdays to stay on schedule.
Drivers can expect one-lane traffic with flaggers directing them through the work zone. Pilot vehicles also will be used to guide drivers through the work zone.
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
Blevins Asphalt Company of Mt. Vernon will do the work for a low bid amount of $1.3 million.
The work is scheduled to be completed by November 1, 2017. However, contractor crews expect to have the project completed by the middle of October, barring any weather or construction delays.
