Work on Route 54 Bridge Over Richland Creek to Start Thursday

KINGDOM CITY – Work to replace the deck on the westbound Route 54 bridge over Richland Creek will begin Thursday, Sept. 28. The bridge is located between Kingdom City and Fulton.

The work will reduce westbound Route 54 to one 11-foot lane for approximately 75 days. The rehabilitation work will allow the bridge, originally built in 1968, to provide an additional 20 to 25 years of service.

Electronic message boards will be in place to inform motorists about the work.

The eastbound bridge over Richland Creek is also scheduled to get a new deck. That work is scheduled to begin in spring of 2018.

The bridge deck replacements are part of a larger project that is improving nine Route 54 bridges between I-70 in Kingdom City and New Bloomfield in Callaway County during the next 12 months.

The other bridges are:

  • Route 54 westbound over Middle River (complete)
  • Route 54 eastbound over the KCR Railroad
  • Route 54 eastbound over Stinson Creek
  • Route 54 eastbound over Business Route 54
  • Route 54 eastbound over Interstate 70 ( underway)
  • Route 54 westbound over Interstate 70
  • Route 54 westbound over Hillers Creek

The bridges over Richland Creek and the KCR Railroad will get new decks. The remaining Route 54 bridges will be rehabilitated.

The rehabilitation of the eastbound bridge over I-70 at Kingdom City is underway and has a November completion date. The project to rehabilitate the westbound bridge over Middle River is complete.

Capital Paving and Construction is the contractor on the $7.3 million bridge project.
