Chestnut Expressway Railroad Bridge TRAFFIC MOVE DELAYED UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT, OCT. 2

Chestnut Expressway TRAFFIC MOVE TO NEW RAILROAD BRIDGE POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 2, DUE TO CONSTRUCTION DELAYS.

Where: Chestnut Expressway west of Route 65 in Springfield 

What: Chestnut Expressway traffic moved to new railroad bridge 

When: After 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2. (Traffic originally set to move to new railroad bridge on Thursday night, Sept. 28. However, construction delays have postpone the traffic move.) 

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

  • Chestnut Expressway CLOSED  to all traffic. Work hours: 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.
  • Detour:
    • For eastbound traffic: Belcrest Avenue to Cairo Street to Union Avenue to Cherry Street to Ingram Mill Road
    • For westbound traffic: Ingram Mill Road to Cherry Street to Union Avenue to Cairo Street to Belcrest Avenue
  • On Tuesday morning, Oct. 3, all Chestnut Expressway traffic will use the new railroad bridge
    • Until north half of bridge is complete, only two westbound lanes open with one eastbound lane open 

Project Facts:

  • Build new roads on either side of Chestnut Expressway to provide access to area businesses
  • Build a bridge on Chestnut Expressway over the railroad tracks west of Chestnut Expressway
  • Install a new traffic signal at Ingram Mill Road and Chestnut Expressway
  • Total project cost estimate: $14.8 million
  • Completion: Late November 2017
  • Partnership project: city of Springfield, Greene County, Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad, MoDOT
