JEFFERSON CITY – A five state Regional Child Passenger Safety Conference will be held Nov. 7-8 at the University Plaza Conference Center in Springfield. This event is hosted by the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, State Farm Insurance, Mercy Hospital and Manufacturers Alliance for Child Passenger Safety. Child passenger safety technicians and instructors will be in attendance from the states of Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska and Iowa.
This one and a half day conference will feature speakers and trainers on the most up-to-date information regarding child passenger safety regulations, manufacturers update and equipment training. The conference will offer continuing education units so that child passenger safety technicians and instructors can maintain their certification and continue to serve thousands of families through car seat safety.
“Continuing education on child passenger safety issues is essential in saving lives,” said Bill Whitfield, MoDOT Director of Highway Safety. In 2016, 18 children less than eight years of age were killed and 47 suffered serious injuries as occupants in motor vehicle crashes in Missouri. Twenty-nine percent of the children killed were not restrained in a car seat or safety belt.
