Route 65 Six-Laning Project - Springfield

Update for Week of November 13, 2017
  • Nighttime lane and ramp closings on Route 65 for pavement striping and guardrail installation
  • New northbound and southbound Route 65 highway lanes possibly open by late in week 

Work Scheduled:  

  • Striping pavement and installing rumble strips northbound and southbound on Route 65
  • Installing guardrail
  • Installing overhead truss sign

Traffic Impacts:  

  • NIGHT WORK: Route 65 lane closings in both directions. Work hours: as early as 6 p.m. to as late as 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
  • NIGHTTIME RAMP CLOSINGS:
    • Northbound Route 65-to-westbound Route 60 and northbound Route 65-to-eastbound Route 60 ramps closed. Work hours:  7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 13-14
    • Southbound Route 65-to-eastbound Route 60 and eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramps. Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 15-16.
    • Westbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 60. Work hours: 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 15-16.
  • Trucks and other equipment entering and leaving work areas
  • Route 65 speed limit reduced to 55 mph in work zone
  • Timbercrest Road underneath Route 65, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River Water trail OPEN 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.) 

Project Summary:

  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark
  • Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
  • Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60
  • Prime Contractor: Emery Sapp and Sons, Columbia
  • Project nearing completion
  • Total Project Cost: $21 million
