HANNIBAL – While construction crews continue to work in the water setting casings to build the piers for the new bridge, other work is progressing on land. “Crews are clearing trees on the Illinois side of the bridge now to prepare the area for additional construction on the new bridge,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Brian Haeffner. He said there is a possibility for intermittent lane closures on the Illinois side of U.S. Route 54. “The work will be taking place over the next month, and we appreciate the patience of those who drive across the bridge, in the event of a brief closure,” he added.
Haeffner encourages those who drive across the bridge and regional residents to sign up for MoDOT’s e-update service for the new Champ Clark Bridge by going to www.champclarkbridge.com. “We also are now featuring an online newsletter, a bridge web camera showing construction in the area, as well as a Flickr site with updated photos of the work being done,” he explained. Anyone subscribed to e-update will receive updates on the work being done, as well as the link to the online newsletter.
Massman Construction Co. is the contractor building the new bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River Bridge, and it is expected to be completed by fall of 2019.
