Route 65 Six-Laning Project - Springfield

Update for Week of November 20, 2017
  • TRAFFIC CONGESTION OCCURRING SOUTHBOUND ON ROUTE 65 UNTIL THIRD LANE OPENS SATURDAY MORNING, NOV. 18
  • TRAFFIC ALERT: All six lanes of Route 65 between Route 60 and Evans Road scheduled to OPEN by early Saturday morning, Nov. 18
  • Route 65 lane closings possible Monday through Friday for cleanup work 

Work Scheduled:  

  • Completing pavement striping in various locations
  • Installing road signs in areas
  • Cleaning up in various locations 

Traffic Impacts:  

  • NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65:
    • Eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 has dedicated lane which becomes the third southbound lane of Route 65 south of Route 60. Ramp drivers no longer merge into the southbound lanes of Route 65.
    • Until the southbound Route 65 lane closest to the median opens on Saturday morning, Nov. 18, drivers can expect congestion and backups. Drivers are urged to avoid southbound Route 65 Friday afternoon, Nov. 17.
    • By Saturday morning Nov. 18, all three lanes of Route 65 will be OPEN to traffic and congestion during rush hours should be reduced.
  • Daytime and nighttime lane closings possible on Route 65 at lower traffic volume times
  • Trucks and other equipment entering and leaving work areas
  • Timbercrest Road underneath Route 65, the Galloway Greenways trail and the James River Water trail OPEN 

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.) 

Project Summary:

  • Widen Route 65 to six lanes — three lanes in each direction — between Route 60 and a point south of Evans Road to continue the progress to six lane Route 65 toward Ozark
  • Widen and rehabilitate southbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield to accommodate new lanes and to lengthen eastbound Route 60-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Replace northbound Route 65 bridge over Lake Springfield with new, wider span to replace old bridge in constant need of repair
  • Extend northbound Route 65 ramps to Route 60
  • Prime Contractor: Emery Sapp and Sons, Columbia
  • Project nearing completion
  • Total Project Cost: $21 million
