Springfield, Greene County – Drivers can expect lane closings and crews and equipment close to traffic starting the first of December when a project begins to make improvements to the Route 65/Division Street interchange area in east Springfield, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
A major part of the project includes the relocation of the Eastgate Avenue/Division Street intersection. Eastgate’s intersection with Division will be moved approximately 600 feet to the east and a new traffic signal will be installed.
Here’s a look at other parts of the project:
- Repair the Division Street bridge over Route 65 and remove the concrete island allowing for two lanes westbound and one lane eastbound
- Widen the northbound Route 65 off ramp to Division Street to provide dual left turn lanes for traffic going northbound to westbound at the interchange
- Replace traffic signals at Route 65/Division Street interchange
Traffic Impacts:
- Initially, much of the work will take place away from traffic. However, as the project progresses lane closings on Division Street at Route 65 with flaggers directing drivers through the work zone will be possible.
- Toward the end of the Eastgate Avenue relocation, Eastgate will be closed up to two months as crews connect the newly relocated road into the existing roadway.
- During the work to repair the Division Street bridge over Route 65, drivers can expect traffic shifts away from where crews are working. One lane in each direction will remain open much of the time.
Drivers should be aware that private contractors also are working in the area and are making other road improvements to Division Street and to Eastgate Avenue at Chestnut Expressway. MoDOT is working with the contractors to help coordinate road work to lessen impacts to drivers.
APAC-Central, Inc. of Fayetteville, Ark. is the prime contractor on the MoDOT project.
The estimated total project cost is $3.5 million.
The work is scheduled to be completed by late June 2018.
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule and, possibly, the completion date.
