Springfield, Greene County – The overall completion of the project to build a bridge over the railroad tracks on East Chestnut Expressway west of Route 65 in Springfield has been delayed by two months, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Throughout the project, relocating utility lines has been a challenge due to the number of lines in the area along with special measures required when working around railroad property. In some instances, unanticipated utility lines were discovered during excavation which required relocation before the project could proceed.
MoDOT and the prime contractor, Lehman Construction Company, are doing everything in their power to keep the project on track. However, the delays will require the completion date to be moved to late February or early March 2018. If extreme cold temperatures and snow and ice occur, the completion date could be further delayed until weather conditions improve.
In the meantime, contractor crews are still working to complete the project as quickly as possible.
