St. Louis Work Zones for December 21 - 27

ST. LOUIS – To help motorists travel around the state for the upcoming Christmas holiday, the Missouri Department of Transportation will restrict most construction on interstates and state highways from noon on Friday, December 22, until 9 a.m. Tuesday, December 26. Restrictions will still be in place in areas where there are permanent barriers and if required, crews will close lanes for emergency maintenance.

Illinois commuters and other drivers who regularly use the Interstate 64/Interstate 55 bridge across the Mississippi River (the Poplar Street Bridge) should be aware of upcoming long-term traffic shifts starting next week:

  • Tuesday, December 26 -Crews will close an additional eastbound lane across the Mississippi River starting at 8 p.m. Only one lane will be open across the river until 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27.
  • Wednesday, December 27 - Crews will once again close an additional eastbound lane on the bridge to install barrier wall along the far left lane, starting at 8 p.m. Only one lane will be open across the river. When the second lane reopens by 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, the far left lane on the eastbound bridge will remain closed around the clock until the end of December 2018.
  • Thursday, December 28 - Crews will close two westbound lanes across the bridge at 8 p.m. One lane will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday morning; the far left westbound lane across the bridge will remain closed until the end of December 2018.

In addition, motorists who frequent New Florissant Road (State Route N) in north St. Louis County should be aware of changes to the traffic signal at the Albert/Powell intersection starting this week.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 22, the signal at New Florissant Road and Albert/Powell will flash. Motorists traveling on New Florissant Road will see a flashing yellow light and side traffic on Albert/Powell will see a flashing red light. This pattern will stay in place through the end of January.

Pedestrians wishing to cross New Florissant Road in this area will need to use the new pedestrian signal just south of Eddy Avenue.
