Travel Advisory Tonight and Monday Morning, January 8 in Northeast Missouri

HANNIBAL – In light of dropping temperatures overnight and continued precipitation expected, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Northeast District is issuing a travel advisory overnight tonight, Sunday, into Monday morning, January 8.  “There is significant concern for black ice on roads and bridges, despite our ongoing treatment today and overnight tonight,” she explained.  MoDOT crews will continue to be out in most of northeast Missouri to put down material where it is needed and monitor roads and bridges.  “The pavement could be deceiving, especially in the morning,” she said.  Realizing many area residents will be returning to work tomorrow morning, she suggests planning ahead, taking extra time, driving slowly and cautiously, always wearing a seat belt.

MoDOT’s online traveler information map at www.modot.org is the best source of information for road conditions, displaying the condition of the major roads.  Minor roads are not shown on the map, and tomorrow morning these can be expected to have some ice and slush.  Customer service representatives are available 24/7 at 1-888-275-6636 (ASK MODOT).  Drivers can stay updated on road closures and road work by subscribing to MoDOT’s e-update service at https://www6.modot.mo.gov/eMoDOTWeb/jsp/signon/signon.jsp.
