Phone-in public meeting planned for Bates County

Route V bridge projects on Jan. 17

Bates County – A phone-in public meeting is planned for January 17 where area residents can phone in and ask questions about plans to rehabilitate and replace two bridges on Bates County Route V north of Foster, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

MoDOT project experts will be available from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, by calling (417) 621-6325.

Those unable to call in during that time can visit www.modot.org/southwest and view information about the projects by clicking on “Major Projects” at the top of the page.  They also can make comments or submit questions via e-mail by clicking on the “Give us your comments on this project” link at the bottom of the web page.

MoDOT plans to rehabilitate and widen slightly the driving surface of the bridge over Pecan Creek.

The bridge over the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately one mile west of Pecan Creek, will be replaced with a wider and longer bridge.

New guardrail also will be installed at both bridges.

The bridges will be closed at the same time this summer. Drivers will need to find alternate routes because there will be no signed detour. Drivers will be able to access entrances at either end of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through it.

The bridges were originally built in 1961 and have seen deterioration over the past several years.  Approximately 500 vehicles cross the bridges each day.

The total project cost is estimated at $2.8 million.
