Connecticut Avenue Bridge Over I-44 in Joplin

CLOSED Beginning Week of Jan. 22

Joplin – The Connecticut Avenue bridge over I-44 in Joplin will be CLOSED beginning the week of Jan. 22, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will replace the old bridge with a new structure, which will be wider than the current bridge with four 12-foot lanes and two 8-foot sidewalks.

The project is a 50-50 cost share with the City of Joplin.

Drivers can get to entrances on either side of the bridge.  However, they will not be able to cross the bridge during construction.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing.

Drivers are urged to find alternate routes during the bridge project. No signed detour is planned.

Temporary closure of I-44

As part of the project, I-44 will be CLOSED between Exit 6 and Exit 8, from 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 while contractor crews demolish the current bridge. The interstate will be open to traffic during daytime hours.

During the I-44 closure, drivers will be detoured using Route 43, Route FF (32nd Street) and Loop 49 (Rangeline Road). Truck traffic is urged to find alternate routes.

Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
