With more freezing precipitation forecast to hit central and eastern Missouri this afternoon, MoDOT is urging commuters and rush hour travelers to be cautious during their drive home.
The National Weather Service updated its Monday forecast to include freezing rain and drizzle throughout central and eastern areas of the state, including St. Louis. Although MoDOT is treating roads and preparing for freezing precipitation, drivers should check the Traveler Information Map before departing and remain extremely cautious once on the road.
“Traffic will surge at rush hour and streets and highways may be slick with freezing rain,” said Becky Allmeroth, MoDOT state maintenance engineer. “Drivers need to take it slow and leave plenty of braking room between cars.”
MoDOT offers a variety of tools to help drivers who must travel. The department’s Traveler Information Map, located at www.modot.org offers the latest road conditions.
MoDOT also has a toll-free customer service line which is answered 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. A customer service representative can be reached by calling 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636).
