MoDOT prepares for wintry mix coming this evening

St. Louis – MoDOT crews are preparing again to work throughout the night to keep the roads clear of the forecasted ice and snow moving into the region this evening.

The National Weather Service is predicting a wintry mix of freezing drizzle and some snow starting around 7 p.m., and lasting until 4 a.m. The forecast predicts that both Jefferson and Franklin counties will get more freezing rain than other areas in the region.

The St. Louis district is planning to be fully staffed with more than 200 plow trucks ready to go this evening well into Wednesday morning. Crews will treat the roads with salt during the storm and will plow if necessary.

“Our crews will work diligently throughout the night to keep the roads clear. Please give them plenty of room to work. If the storm moves out by 4 a.m. as predicted, the roads should be in good shape for tomorrow’s morning commute. Drivers should still take their time and use caution because there could be some slick spots,” said District Maintenance Engineer Bob Becker.

Motorists are encouraged to pay close attention to weather conditions and avoid driving during freezing rain.  Even treated roads that have salt could become icy as freezing rain hits the surface.
