HANNIBAL - The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract to Chester Bross of Palmyra, Missouri, for a resurfacing project on Missouri Route 47 between Hawk Point and Troy. The resurfacing of all lanes begins at the intersection of Lincoln County Route A and Lincoln County Route D in Hawk Point and ends approximately 0.3 miles west of the Lincoln County Route H and Lincoln County Route J intersection in Troy. The total length of the project is 6.691 miles and the total cost is $599,044.71.
“This construction project will have several lane reductions, all occurring during nighttime hours, and we will inform the public through social media and local press of the progress along the way,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga. The resurfacing is expected to begin this spring and take just a couple of weeks to complete, but a more specific schedule will be shared once the contractor has determined the date to start the work. “They are waiting to see when the weather will be favorable to doing asphalt laydown at night” he added.
Other than the resurfacing portion of this project, two feet of curve widening will be added to the reverse curves near the intersection with Lincoln County Route AA, and to the reverse curves approximately 1 mile west of Route AA.
“This is a preventive maintenance project to improve the pavement condition of the highway. We received safety funds to do the limited curve widening at the reverse curves, but widening the entire road would cost several million dollars,” explained Maninga.
