HANNIBAL - The major winter stormed that has been named "Oliver" by national weather experts is expected to cross Missouri from the southwest heading into the northeast part of the state this evening and into the morning. Many counties in the Missouri Department of Transportation's Northeast District are expected to receive freezing rain, ice, sleet and snow. There is a winter weather advisory that has been posted for much of the state, and drivers are being warned about a dicey commute overnight into the morning.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews in several counties will be out overnight monitor road conditions and treat them as needed. "While most of our central and southern counties will be more affected, it is possible as the storm continues to head northeast, some of our northern counties will see some freezing rain," said MoDOT Communications Manager Marisa Ellison. The Northeast District has 17 counties that span from the Iowa state line to I-70 on the eastern part of the state.
