Expect traffic shift for the Route 291 Bridge south of old Route 210

CLAY COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin the “traffic switch” phase of the bridge rehabilitation work on the Route 291 Bridge at the Jackson/Clay County line, just south of Old 210.

Beginning at noon Tuesday, March 6 crews will cross northbound traffic over the median and into head to head traffic on the southbound bridge, then cross back across the median. This configuration will remain in place until the northbound bridge rehabilitation is complete in mid-June.

Crews will then switch all traffic onto the northbound bridge so the southbound portion of the bridge can be rehabilitated. The overall project is expected to be complete by mid-October.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
