MoDOT Bridge to Be Removed

Project Will Close Portion of Greenway for Several Weeks

JEFFERSON CITY - A bridge that used to carry MoDOT Drive across Wear’s Creek in Jefferson City will be removed under a contract with Mera Excavating.

Removal of the bridge, which has been closed for about 15 years, will begin March 12 and last until April 2. During that time, a portion of the Greenway Trail located behind the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Central District office building on 1511 Missouri Blvd. will be closed to bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Those wanting to use the Greenway in this area will be detoured to Missouri Boulevard at Schnucks and taken back to the Greenway via Kansas Avenue, near the Washington Park Ice Arena.

“We ask walkers, joggers and bikers to avoid this area during construction as heavy equipment will be in use,” said MoDOT Central District Engineer David Silvester.

Silvester said the bridge is being removed as a safety precaution and to discourage loitering in the area.
