The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved a contract to resurface a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 44 in Laclede, Pulaski and Phelps counties. Capital Paving and Construction was awarded a contract that includes resurfacing I-44 between Hazelgreen and Doolittle and rehabilitating the bridges at Exit 172 (Route D) to Jerome and Dixon. The company submitted the low bid of $12,969.310.
The project is scheduled to begin this spring, with work to be completed in the fall of 2019. I-44 will remain open to traffic during resurfacing, but there will be times when the on-ramp to I-44 from Route D and the off-ramp to Route D from I-44 will be closed while the surface treatment is being completed on the bridges. The off-ramp will be closed for up to 35 days, and the on-ramp will be closed for as many as 45 days during the work. During these two ramp closures, traffic will be detoured to the Route J interchange to the west.
