HANNIBAL - The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded a contract to Chester Bross Construction of Palmyra, Missouri, to replace the one-lane bridge on Marion County Route K over South Fork North River, just north of Marion County Route CC. The total cost of the project is $494,709.00. The current bridge accommodates only one lane of traffic, and the new bridge will be wider for two lanes of traffic.
“During construction, the road will be closed, and we will inform the public through social media and local press of the progress along the way,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner. The existing bridge over South Fork North River is 20 feet wide, and is striped for only lane of traffic. The new bridge will be 24 feet wide and will accommodate two lanes of traffic.
The replacement could begin as early as April 9, 2018 and will take a few months to complete. The contract completion date is November 1, 2018. Once Route K is closed, the contractor will have 80 calendar days to complete the work, or they will be charged damages. A more specific schedule will be shared once the contractor has determined the date to start the replacement. There will also be changeable message boards in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work.
