REMINDER: U.S. Route 59 to close for bridge replacement

MOUND CITY, Mo. – For those that use the bridge on U.S. Route 59 over Davis Creek on the east edge of Mound City, this is a reminder that it is scheduled to close for replacement on Monday, March 12. Contractors from Chester Bross Construction Company of Palmyra, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will close the bridge to all traffic that morning. It will remain closed into June. A signed detour is not planned at this time and motorists will need to seek an alternate route for the duration of the work.

The current bridge was built in 1929 and carries more than 700 cars each day over its narrow span. The new bridge will be along the same alignment as the old bridge, but will include safety shoulders and will be about four feet wider than the current bridge.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change. MoDOT encourages all motorists to slow down, buckle up, eliminate distractions and drive safely to ensure everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
