HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, beginning Monday, March 26th, northbound lanes of U.S. Route 61 will be resurfaced from the St. Charles County line to Lincoln County Route V, and southbound lanes between the St. Charles County line to Lincoln County Route E. In addition, new right turn lanes and median guard cable will be added in various locations.
“There are several safety projects which will be done at the same time including the removal of four U.S. 61 crossovers, located at John Creech Road, Himmel Road/ Raceway Park Drive, at the auto salvage dealership and the crossroads, near Lincoln County Route U,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Erik Maninga. Another safety project will be to add new right turn lanes at Lincoln County Route K, Raceway Park Drive, John Creech Road, Himmel Road and Route V, and guard cable in the grass median between Lincoln County Route C and the St. Charles County line.
Any work requiring a lane closure that will be performed north of the Cuivre River north of Troy will be done during the day; work south of the Cuivre River will be done overnight.
“Our maintenance crews are performing pavement repairs to help ensure the road is smooth once the resurfacing is completed,” Maninga explained. After the pavement repairs are complete, the surface will be milled off and replaced with a new asphalt surface. “The project will begin on the lanes north of the Cuivre River Bridge and then move south of the bridge once completed,” said Maninga.
MaGruder Paving, LLC of Troy, Missouri was awarded the contract for $4,136,856.29. They will have 60 calendar days to complete the resurfacing project north of the Cuivre River, and 140 calendar days to complete the crossover removals, new right turn lanes and guard cable portion, along with all the other work south of the Cuivre River. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zone while the work is completed. Signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work. All work is expected to be completed by November 1, 2018.
