ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – If you regularly travel Interstate 29 near the border of Holt and Andrew counties, you have seen the work going on at the Nodaway River Bridge. Contractors from Emery Sapp and Sons, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, are building crossover lanes in the median just north and south of the bridge, located between mile markers 66 and 67.
As early as April 15, weather permitting, those crossover lanes will be put to use as traffic moves head to head in the northbound lanes while the contractors replace the old bridge deck in the southbound lanes. By closing the southbound bridge, the contractor can complete their work safely without detouring southbound traffic several miles around the project. The traffic pattern switch will continue to the end of August.
During this part of the project, there will be one 14-foot wide lane in each direction around the bridge replacement. Vehicles and loads wider than 14 feet, such as large agricultural equipment, will need to use an alternate route for the duration of the head-to-head portion of the project.
