Springfield, Greene County – Work begins the week of April 23 to build a noise-reducing wall on the south side of Route 60 (James River Freeway) east of Fremont Avenue in Springfield, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Much of the work will take place away from traffic. However, in mid-to-late May, the new eastbound Route 60 auxiliary lane may be closed. A crane will be set up in the closed lane to lift sound wall panels into place.
A noise study was conducted ahead of the project to add auxiliary lanes connecting the interchange ramps on Route 60 between National Avenue and Glenstone Avenue. The auxiliary lane project also is under construction.
The noise study identified the need for a noise-reducing wall on the south side of James River Freeway east of Fremont Avenue. While the noise study looked at all areas north and south of James River Freeway, the only areas to quality for the sound walls were on the south side east of Fremont Avenue. Two walls were put to a vote of adjacent property owners and only one wall was approved by the property owners.
KCI Construction of St. Louis is building the project.
The total estimated project cost is $1.2 million.
The project will be completed by August 1.
