OSBORN, Mo. – The project to rebuild and resurface part of U.S. Route 36 near Osborn is progressing. The Missouri Department of Transportation has contracted with Herzog Contracting Corporation and their sub-contractors to complete the project. This afternoon all traffic will move head to head in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 36 near the Route 33 North and Route M junction while the westbound lanes are being rebuilt. Traffic will remain head to head through the beginning of July.
For the duration of the head to head traffic pattern, drivers at the Route 33 North/Route M intersection will be restricted to right turns both onto and off of U.S. Route 36. Additionally, motorists will not be able to cross U.S. Route 36 at this intersection. Towards the end of this part of the project, access to Route 33 North will be closed to all traffic while a new intersection is constructed.
Traffic control, signs and message boards are in place alerting motorists of the work. All work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.
This project is one of several along the U.S. Route 36 corridor between Buchanan County and Caldwell County. Others include:
- Guardrail work between the Buchanan/DeKalb County line and 1.4 miles east of Route N at Stewartsville. One lane each direction may be closed at times. Work continues through May.
- Pavement repairs on eastbound U.S. Route 36 between SW Taylor Road west of Stewartsville and just before the Route 33 North/Route M junction. One lane may be closed at times. Work continues through May.
- Bridge maintenance on eastbound U.S. Route 36 just east of Cameron at the Long Branch Bridge. The driving lane is closed through May 10. The passing lane will then close for approximately two weeks.
MoDOT encourages all travelers to slow down, especially in work zones. As always, please buckle up, eliminate distractions, pay attention and drive safely so everyone is able to Arrive Alive.
