McDonald County Route E Bridge Over Big Sugar Creek

Near Powell CLOSED Beginning Week of May 7

McDonald County – The McDonald County Route E bridge over Big Sugar Creek near Powell will be CLOSED beginning the week of May 7 until early September, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The existing bridge, built in 1947, is 20-feet wide and striped for single-lane traffic due to deterioration of the structure and the resulting weight restrictions. Contractor crews will replace the old bridge with a new 26-foot wide structure with two 11-foot lanes and two-foot shoulders on each side.

Drivers can get to entrances on either side of the bridge.  However, they will not be able to cross the bridge during construction.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the bridge closing.

Drivers are urged to find alternate routes during the bridge project. No signed detour is planned.

Project background:

  • Prime Contractor: West Plains Bridge & Grading LLC, West Plains
  • Completion Date: September 1, 2018
  • Total project cost: $1.8 million

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.
