HANNIBAL – Construction on the new Interstate 70 West Warrenton Interchange will temporarily close two roads in Warren County. Weather permitting, Monday, May 14, the intersection of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and Route MM, along with the section of Route MM from the intersection to the railroad underpass will close for 35 days in order to complete the new eastern roundabout and the new Route MM pavement between the roundabout and railroad. The new roundabout will immediately replace the existing intersection of these two roads, and allow the reopening of this section of roadway. This work should take five weeks.
“After the closures, the public can drive west on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and use the roundabout to access Route MM to the south," explained Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer Erik Maninga, P.E. “This is the route for traffic when construction is finished, but the leg to the west will be closed until that road is complete, and that portion of the project should be finished by the end of June,” he added.
The westbound lanes of I-70 will remain reduced to a width of ten feet, eastbound I-70 is open to 12' lanes with the shoulders closed, and the south outer road west of the Route MM connection will remain closed until sometime in June. Please remember to use caution when traveling through this work zone and obey signage and direction from personnel.
Construction on the new interchange began in September 2017 and is expected to take up to 18 months to be completed. Emery Sapp & Sons was awarded the contract for $8,551,941.42, and the project was fully funded by the city of Warrenton. MoDOT will own and maintain the new interchange once construction is finished.
