UPDATE: MoDOT Will Change Traffic Patterns on I-435 Beginning May 11

Motorists Who Travel Southbound I-435 to Westbound Will Encounter Delays

KANSAS CITY – As part of the Missouri Department of Transportation project along the I-435 corridor, crews will be making adjustments to current traffic flow in the existing lanes. Once traffic assumes the new pattern, crews begin building additional lanes along the outside of current lanes.

Starting Friday, May 11, motorists can expect to see the following closures, lane configuration or traffic impacts while crews adjust striping and set construction barrier:

  • ADDED: The ramp from Route W  to westbound I-435 will be CLOSED from May 12, 2018 until late summer 2019.  The ramp from Route W to I-49 and I-470 will remain open.
  • Friday evening crews will CLOSE the left lane of the westbound I-435 to Grandview Road, reducing this merge area from three lanes to one. This will be reduced to one lane through Spring 2019. This will impact southbound I-435 travelers, motorists merging from Route 71 and motorists entering from I-470 as they merge into the Three Trails Crossing. Expect delays and consider altering your travel times.

  • Friday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. crews will CLOSE the westbound I-435 left lane from Grandview Rd to State Line Road
  • Also Friday night, May 11 from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. crews will CLOSE the right two lanes of the westbound I-470 ramp to westbound I-435 from Hillcrest to the west of 3 Trails Crossing and continue to the left two lanes of westbound I-435 from 3 Trails Crossing to State Line Road.
  • On Saturday, May 12, crews will CLOSE the westbound I-435 on-ramp from Bannister Road and on-ramp from Route 71 from midnight to 4 a.m.
  • On Saturday, May 12 from 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., crews will CLOSE  westbound I-435 right through lanes and all auxiliary lanes from 3 Trails Crossing to State Line.

Ramp access to/from 104th, Holmes, Wornall and State Line Road will be maintained through the duration of the project.

Beginning Monday May 15, commuters along this route will see some reduced lane widths. Review KC Scout cameras before you leave to scout potential back-ups or delays at www.kscout.net.

This work is part of the I-435 South Loop Link project that will replaces the bridges at Wornall and Holmes, rehabilitates the bridges at 104th Street and the Blue River, and upgrades the pavement on I-435 which includes adding another lane.
