Preparations for Resurfacing on Route 40 in Howard County to Begin

HOWARD COUNTY – Preparation work for a pavement resurfacing project on U.S. Route 40 in Howard County will begin Monday, May 14.

One lane of Route 40 will be closed in Howard County between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. each day starting Monday, May 14 until early June. Motorists should expect to encounter work crews along Route 40 daily. Flaggers and pilot cars will guide motorists through the work zones.

Pilot cars help motorists safely navigate through work zones that might include equipment crossings, difficult crossroads, lane changes or other obstacles. At each end of the work zone, a flagger will stop traffic until the pilot car is ready to lead vehicles through the work area. The pilot car will then guide vehicles safely through the work zone and will pull off the road at the end of the work zone to allow the travelers to continue on their way. The car will then repeat the process, traveling in the other direction.

Motorists are advised to plan for more time to reach their destination or to seek an alternate route around the work areas. MoDOT appreciates the patience of travelers during the work.
