Springfield, Greene County – A project to rebuild the deteriorating concrete pavement at four separate locations on Glenstone Avenue in Springfield is scheduled to begin the week of May 21 at the north end of the project near I-44 with nighttime lane closings, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contractor crews plan to start work at the Evergreen Street intersection south of I-44 and at the Kearney Street intersection. The project schedule calls for work on the north end of Glenstone Avenue to be completed prior to the Route 65 REBUILD project which is scheduled to start following the July 4th holiday.
Here’s a look at the schedule for replacing the 1950’s-era concrete pavement:
- Week of May 21, nighttime lane closings on Glenstone Avenue at Evergreen and at Kearney streets to prep the pavement for removal starting the following week. Work hours: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday-Thursday.
- On Tuesday, May 29, the two inside lanes of Glenstone Avenue at Evergreen Street and Kearney Street will be closed ‘round the clock to allow contractor crews to replace the pavement. The northbound and southbound inside lanes will remain closed approximately two weeks.
- Mid-June, contractor crews will reopen the inside lanes and close the outside northbound and southbound lanes of Glenstone Avenue at Kearney Street and at Evergreen Street. The northbound and southbound lanes will remain closed approximately two weeks.
- Weekend of June 8-11, the intersection of Kearney Street and Glenstone Avenue will be CLOSED up to 60-hours. During the intersection closing, drivers will be able to make right turns at the intersection, but will not be able to travel through it. Work hours: 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, until 7 a.m. Monday, June 11.
- Week of June 18, Evergreen Street approaching Glenstone Avenue will be CLOSED over two nights during the work week. Work hours: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. during week days. (Exact days will be announced closer to closing dates.)
- One lane of Glenstone Avenue will remain OPEN most of the time. However, with lanes reduced, traffic congestion is expected and drivers should consider alternate routes.
The two north sections of Glenstone Avenue at Evergreen and Kearney streets will be completed prior to the July 4th holiday.
The two south sections of Glenstone Avenue at the railroad overpass north of Commercial Street and between Lombard Street and Page Street will take place starting in July or August. (The exact work schedule will be announced prior to the work starting.)
