Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing Missouri Route 5 in Laclede County on Monday, May 21.
Weather permitting, workers will begin repaving Route 5 from Farmers Lane in Lebanon to Route C south of Lebanon. The work will also include installing two-foot shoulders through the work area and a center turn lane at Route 5 and Freemont Road in Lebanon.
One lane of Route 5 will be open during the work, with flaggers and a pilot car guiding traffic through the work zone. Pilot cars help motorists safely navigate through work zones that might include equipment crossings, difficult crossroads, lane changes or other obstacles.
Here’s how it works: At each end of the work zone, a flagger will stop traffic until the pilot car is ready to lead vehicles through the work area. The pilot car will then guide vehicles safely through the work zone and will pull off the road at the end of the work zone to allow the travelers to continue on their way. The car will then repeat the process, traveling in the other direction.
Drivers are asked to use caution when driving through work zones. The entire project is scheduled for completion by late August.
Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the work.
