U.S. Route 59 Now Open

MOUND CITY, Mo. – The bridge on U.S. Route 59 over Davis Creek on the east edge of Mound City is now open ahead of schedule. Contractors from Chester Bross Construction Company of Palmyra, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, closed the bridge March 12 to construct a new bridge. They planned to reopen the bridge in early June, but were able to complete the project earlier than anticipated.

The old bridge was built in 1929 and carried more than 700 cars each day over its narrow span. The new bridge was built along the same alignment as the old bridge, but includes safety shoulders and is about four feet wider than the 1929 bridge.

MoDOT appreciates the patience of the residents of Mound City throughout the construction of this important bridge replacement project.
