MACON – Weather permitting, Monday, June 11th, Missouri Route 161/Route J in Montgomery County will be closed for a bridge replacement. The project will be at Interstate 70 near Danville. There will be several phases to this project in addition to the bridge replacement, including ramp pavement work, outer road pavement work, guardrail, lighting, and signing. Motorists should expect night time lane closures on I-70 the week before as the contractor installs concrete traffic barrier in preparation for the demolition and subsequent construction activities.
Lehman Construction, LLC of California, Missouri, was awarded the contract in the amount of $2,192,595. They will have 140 calendar days to complete all phases of the project. The new bridge will be 20 feet wider than the existing bridge.
“The demolition of the old bridge will begin on the evening of June 11th. Lehman Construction will have 24 hours to remove the old bridge and I-70 will need to be closed during this time for the safety of all involved,” said MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga. “During the bridge demolition, I-70 traffic will be detoured over the off and on ramps," he added. While I-70 traffic is using the ramps at the interchange, motorists needing to access the interstate should use other routes to nearby interchanges.
Changeable message boards will be used to notify motorists of future traffic impacts as the project progresses.
