Commission Approves Business Route 54 Improvements in Fulton

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission today approved two contracts to resurface Business Route 54 in Fulton and improve sidewalks along the roadway.

Aplex, Inc. was awarded the contract to resurface a nearly five mile stretch of Business 54 between Silver Drive and U.S. Route 54, after submitting the low bid of $2,582,054.  Aplex was also awarded a contract for resurfacing and sidewalk improvements to just over one mile of Business 54, between Second Street and Twelfth Street. The low bid for that project was $1,138,173.

The resurfacing of Business Route 54 is necessary to keep the pavement in good condition.  The improved pavement will provide a smoother, safer surface with better traction for motorists. The sidewalk improvements are needed to bring sidewalks and intersections along Business Route 54 into compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.  These improvements will provide safer access for all pedestrians and especially those with disabilities. The projects are a cooperative effort of MoDOT and the City of Fulton.

The work is expected to take place this summer. When a start date is established, MoDOT will alert the public about the project through signs, news releases and social media.
