Left-turn Lane to Be Removed on Jefferson Street in Kirksville at the Baltimore Street Intersection

MACON – Motorists are going to see a slight change in the near future as they are driving through the Jefferson Street and Baltimore Street intersection in Kirksville. Plans are to remove the left-turn only lane in each direction at this intersection.

“This change will allow us to slide the right thru traffic lane over and get motorists out of the drainage area alongside the road,” said Area Engineer Amy Crawford.

Within the next couple of weeks, crews will begin to mill off the turn arrows on the roadway and restripe the road. Once that is complete, the signs will be removed that indicate left turn only. When complete, the intersection will be similar to the Normal Street intersection just to the south.

“We hope this improvement will help motorists feel less crowded toward the curb as they pass through the intersection, and add safety to help alleviate motorists from having to back up when someone is turning,” Crawford added.

Please use caution if you will be traveling through this area, as crews will be out beginning to start these improvements. Always remember to slow down and obey all work zone signs and personnel, and put your cell phone down to help eliminate distractions.
