Route 5 to close

KEYTESVILLE, Mo – Harsh winters, hot summers, heavy loads, and many, many motorists put wear and tear on Missouri’s aging infrastructure. Such is the case with the Puzzle Creek Bridge on Route 5 just south of U.S. Route 24 in Chariton County. Crews from the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to close Route 5 at Puzzle Creek for two weeks to repair structures under the bridge deck. Daily closures are planned June 25 through June 28 and again July 9 through 12. The road will close from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day between U.S. Route 24 and Route W. Route 5 will remain open the week of Independence Day.

During the daily closures, motorists should find an alternate route. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Repairs such as these help MoDOT prolong the life of the many bridges that dot the roadways of northwest Missouri. The bridge, built in 1929, carries nearly 1,000 vehicles per day.
