HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, work will begin on a bridge rehabilitation project over the South Fabius River Bridge in Marion County on July 9. The project is located on U.S. 61 northbound lanes only approximately 1.2 miles south of Missouri Route 6. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the contract to Bleigh Construction Company of Palmyra, Missouri earlier this year with a total cost of $1,298,342.
“The bridge will have a total deck replacement. The existing bridge was built in 1968 and this improvement will enhance the integrity of our transportation system.” said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner.
Southbound and northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning July 16 through mid-August, during the construction of the median crossovers at which time a 14-ft width restriction will be in place for all traffic traveling through the work zone. Once the crossovers are complete, traffic will be head-to-head on the current southbound lanes as the bridge will be closed over the current northbound lanes while rehabilitation work is completed. A width restriction will continue to be in effect until the project is completed, which is expected by November 1.
Signs will be in place in the upcoming week to notify motorists of the upcoming work. For more information, contact MoDOT's Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636).
