Phelps County I-44 Bridge Repair Project to Move into Third Stage

One Lane of I-44 East at Bridge Over Smith & Tater Hollow to Close on July 25

The Interstate 44 bridge improvement project in Phelps County will move into its third stage on Wednesday, July 25 when bridge repair work begins on the eastbound I-44 bridge over Smith and Tater Hollow.

After 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, one eastbound lane of I-44 between mile markers 171 and 173 will be closed. The eastbound I-44 on-ramp from Route D (Jerome) will also be closed during the work. One lane of I-44 and the eastbound on-ramp from Route D will remain closed until repairs are scheduled to be completed in September.

The eastbound bridge on I-44 carries about 14,000 vehicles per day. The Missouri Department of Transportation expects backups and traffic delays during peak travel times, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

As part of the project, the westbound I-44 off-ramp bridge to Route D (Jerome) remains closed for repair. Repairs on the off-ramp bridge are scheduled to be completed and the off-ramp is scheduled to open sometime next week.

The bridge improvement project also includes evening asphalt resurfacing and guardrail work on I-44 from mile marker 145 to mile marker 177 in Laclede, Pulaski, and Phelps Counties. Motorists can expect one-lane closures in only one direction on I-44 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays until late September.
