Update for Week of July 23
- Southbound Route 65 at I-44 CLOSED until late August; ramps to southbound Route 65 CLOSED
- Work focused on building bridge columns along I-44 at Route 65 for new southbound Route 65 bridge
- Speed limit on I-44 at Route 65 REDUCED to 50 mph. Drivers urged to slow down through work zone.
Work Scheduled:
- Building bridge columns for new southbound Route 65 bridge along I-44
- Removing pavement from westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 and southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44 ramps
- Removing pavement from southbound Route 65 on either side of bridge over I-44
- Installing storm drain pipes in various locations
Traffic Impacts:
- SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 CLOSED until late August
- Southbound detour: Westbound I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound I-44 to southbound Route 65
- Southbound detour: Westbound on Route 744/Kearney Street (Exit 84) to south Route 65
- RAMP CLOSINGS until late August
- Westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65
- Southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44
- Ramp detour: Westbound I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound I-44 to southbound Route 65. Also, westbound I-44 to westbound Route 744 (Exit 84)/Kearney Street to southbound Route 65
- Nighttime lane closings on I-44 at times. One lane in each direction will remain open. Work hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)
Project Summary:
- Replace 50-year old, poor condition southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44
- Rebuild 1970s-era, deteriorating southbound Route 65 pavement between Valley Water Mill Road (Farm Road 102) and Kearney Street
- August 6-August 12 – Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between I-44 and Kearney Street
- August 13-August 21 – Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Valley Water Mill Road (Farm Road 102) to I-44
- Rebuild deteriorating ramps:
- Rebuild westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
- Rebuild eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
- Rebuild southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street ramp
- Rebuild portion of eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
- Upgrade guardrail
- Rebuild shoulders
- No work planned for northbound Route 65
- Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, Inc. of St. Charles, Mo.
- Completion Date: November 2018 (However, contractor plans to complete project by late August.)
- Total Project Cost: $4.3 million
