Route 65: THE REBUILD Phase Two - Springfield

• I-44 CLOSED in one direction at a time over two separate nights during the week

• Southbound Route 65 CLOSED at I-44 until late August for bridge reconstruction                                            

Work Scheduled:  

• Installing bridge girders and other components for southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44
• Grading work for westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 and southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44 ramps
• Grading work for southbound Route 65 on either side of I-44
• Installing storm drain pipes in various locations 

Traffic Impacts:  

• I-44 CLOSED at night in one direction at a time:
  • Westbound I-44 CLOSED. Work hours: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday into Tuesday, July 30-31
    • Detour: Northbound Route 65 to Valley Water Mill Rd (FRD 102) to southbound Route 65 to westbound I-44
  • UPDATED DATE - Eastbound I-44 CLOSED. Work hours: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday into Friday, Aug. 2-3
    • Detour: Southbound Route 65 to Division Street to northbound Route 65 to eastbound I-44
• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 CLOSED until late August
  • Southbound detour: Westbound I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound I-44 to southbound Route 65
  • Southbound detour: Westbound on Route 744/Kearney Street (Exit 84) to southbound Route 65
• ROUTE 65/I-44 INTERCHANGE RAMP CLOSINGS until late August
• Westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65
• Southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44
  • Ramp detours:
    • Westbound I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound I-44 to southbound Route 65.
    • Westbound I-44 to westbound Route 744 (Exit 84)/Kearney Street to southbound Route 65
• Nighttime lane closings on I-44 at times. One lane in each direction remains open. Work hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Nighttime lane closings on northbound Route 65 at I-44 at times. One lane remains open. Work hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• I-44 speed limit at Route 65: 50 mph

 Project Summary:

• Replace 50-year old, poor condition southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44
• Rebuild 1970s-era, deteriorating southbound Route 65 pavement between Valley Water Mill Road (Farm Road 102) and Kearney Street
  • August 6-August 12 – Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between I-44 and Kearney Street
  • August 13-August 21 – Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Valley Water Mill Road (Farm Road 102) to I-44
• Rebuild deteriorating ramps:
  • Rebuild westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Rebuild eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Rebuild southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street ramp
  • Rebuild portion of eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
• Upgrade guardrail along southbound and northbound Route 65
• Rebuild shoulders
• No work planned for northbound Route 65
• Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, Inc. of St. Charles, Mo.
• Completion Date: November 2018 (However, contractor plans to complete project by late August.)
• Total Project Cost: $4.3 million
