Route 65: THE REBUILD Phase Two - Springfield

• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 CLOSED BETWEEN I-44 AND KEARNEY STREET FOR NEW PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION AUG. 5-12
• Week of Aug. 5, no access from I-44 to southbound Route 65
• EARLY HEADS UP: Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Valley Water Mill Road (FRD 102) and I-44 for new pavement construction Aug. 12-19                                            

Work Scheduled:  

• Removing and rebuilding original southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between I-44 and Kearney Street
• Removing and rebuilding original concrete pavement on southbound Route 65 to Kearney Street ramp, southbound Route 65 auxiliary lane between I-44 and Kearney Street and a portion of eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
• Pouring concrete for new deck/driving surface on southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44
• Installing new guardrail in areas along northbound and southbound Route 65 at I-44
• Paving shoulders along southbound Route 65 between I-44 and Kearney Street

Traffic Impacts:  

• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 BETWEEN I-44 AND KEARNEY STREET CLOSED AUGUST 5-12
• EASTBOUND I-44-TO-SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 RAMP CLOSED AUGUST 5-12
  • Closing Period: 10 p.m. Sunday, August 5, until 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12
  • Signed Detour: I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound Kearney Street to southbound Route 65
  • No access to southbound Route 65 from I-44 during the week
  • Congestion expected at Kearney Street/Glenstone Avenue intersection. Drivers who can avoid this area are encouraged to find alternate routes.
• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 AT I-44 CLOSED until late August
• ROUTE 65/I-44 INTERCHANGE RAMP CLOSINGS until late August
• Nighttime lane closings on I-44 at times. One lane in each direction remains open. Work hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Nighttime lane closings on northbound Route 65 at I-44 at times. One lane remains open. Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• I-44 speed limit at Route 65: 50 mph

(Weather or construction delays could alter the work schedule.)

Project Summary:

• July 14-Late August
  • Replace 50-year old, deteriorating southbound Route 65 bridge over I-44
  • Rebuild westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
  • Rebuild southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44 ramp
• August 5-August 12
  • Rebuild original 1970s-era southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between I-44 and Kearney Street
  • Rebuild southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street ramp
  • Rebuild portion of eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
• August 12-August 19
  • Rebuild original 1970s-era southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between Valley Water Mill Road (FRD 102) and I-44
• Upgrade guardrail
• Rebuild shoulders
• No work planned for northbound Route 65
• Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, Inc. of St. Charles, Mo.
• Completion Date: November 2018 (However, contractor plans to complete project by late August.)
• Total Project Cost: $4.3 million
