COOPER COUNTY – The replacement of the Missouri Route 87 bridge over Interstate 70 in Cooper County near Boonville will move into its second stage on Monday, Aug. 13 when Route 87 north of the bridge will be rebuilt to raise both the roadway and westbound I-70 ramps.
Starting at 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, Route 87 just south of Hail Ridge Court in Boonville and both westbound ramps to and from I-70 at Route 87 will be closed for two weeks. Motorists will still have access to the Hail Ridge Golf Course and the Jesse Viertel Memorial Airport, as well as Pearre Lane and Robb Court, during the closure.
Motorists traveling on Route 87 who want to access westbound I-70 during the work are to use the following detours:
- Route 87 north of the bridge site: Route 87 to Route B to I-70 West
- Route 87 south of the bridge site: Route 87 to I-70 East to the Missouri Route 179 interchange to I-70 West
The eastbound ramps to and from I-70 at Route 87 will remain open during the work. Route 87 will remain closed at the bridge site until the replacement project is completed in November.
Drivers traveling on the north side of the Route 87 bridge who want to access Route 87 on the south side of the bridge should use the following detour: Route 87 South to Route B to Route U to Debo Road to Route 87 South. Motorists traveling on the south side of the Route 87 bridge who want to access the north side of the bridge should use the following detour: Route 87 North to Debo Road to Route U to Route B to Route 87 North.
Work to raise the roadway on Route 87 south of the bridge, as well as work on the I-70 eastbound ramps will begin in mid-September. Motorists will not have access to Route 87 south of the bridge or access to eastbound I-70 from Route 87 for approximately 15 days during this phase. The connection from Nancy Potter Road to Route 87 will be closed while the work zone is active. The westbound I-70 ramps will be open.
Periodic lane and road closures are also likely on Route 87 and I-70 during future stages of the work. MoDOT will notify motorists of these closures in advance through electronic message boards, press releases, and social media.
All work schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unexpected delays.
