BOONE COUNTY – The start of bridge rehabilitation work on the Boone County Route BB bridge over Interstate 70 has been delayed until Thursday, August 9. The project was originally set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 2, but scheduling conflicts have delayed the construction timetable by one week. Despite the delay, the project is still on target to be completed in October.
Motorists traveling on I-70 in Boone County should be advised that the work will affect traffic on I-70 and Route BB until the completion of the project.
The first traffic impact is now scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, when both eastbound I-70 ramps to and from Route BB will close for pavement repair work. The eastbound I-70 ramps will reopen, and repair work will be suspended by 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10.
The eastbound I-70 ramps will close again at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 to continue pavement repair work. Repairs will be completed on the east side and all ramps reopened by 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 13.
Motorists should use the following detours during this phase of the project:
- Motorists traveling east on I-70 who want to access Route BB should continue east on I-70 to the Route O/J interchange and use the interchange to proceed west on I-70 to I-70 westbound off ramp at Route BB.
- Drivers who want to access I-70 eastbound from Route BB north of the bridge should use Route BB to Rocheport to Missouri Route 240 to U.S. Route 40 to Boone County Route J to I-70 East.
During the week of Aug. 13, motorists can expect nightly one-lane closures in both directions of I-70 for bridge repair. Lane closures will be in place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night.
Other upcoming impacts relating to the project are as follows:
- Beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 both westbound I-70 ramps to and from Route BB will close for pavement repair. The westbound ramps will reopen, and repair work will be suspended by 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17.
- At 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, repair work will resume and both westbound I-70 ramps to and from Route BB will close once again. Ramps will remain closed until 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 20.
- Route BB will close starting Monday, Aug. 20 for bridge rehabilitation work. The I-70 on- and off-ramps will be open for most of the rehabilitation work but will close near the end of the project to tie into the rehabilitated bridge. Ramp closure dates are to be determined later in the project schedule. The bridge will reopen when work is completed in October.
MoDOT will notify motorists in advance of future closures through electronic message boards, press releases, and social media.
