Route 65: THE REBUILD Phase Two - Springfield

• Southbound Route 65 CLOSED between Valley Water Mill Road (FRD 102) and I-44 for new pavement construction August 12-19
• Southbound Route 65 REOPENS between I-44 and Kearney Street on Sunday night, August 12                                            

Work Scheduled:  

• Removing and rebuilding original southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between Valley Water Mill Road and I-44
• Allowing concrete to cure for new driving surface/bridge deck on southbound Route 65 over I-44
• Installing new guardrail in areas along northbound and southbound Route 65 at I-44
• Paving shoulders along southbound Route 65 in areas between Valley Water Mill Road and Kearney Street 

Traffic Impacts:  

• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 BETWEEN I-44 AND KEARNEY STREET REOPENS BY 10 P.M. ON SUNDAY NIGHT, AUGUST 12
  • Eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp reopens
  • Southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street ramp reopens
• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 CLOSED BETWEEN VALLEY WATER MILL ROAD AND I-44 AUGUST 12-19
  • Southbound Route 65-to-westbound I-44 ramp CLOSED
  • Valley Water Mill Road-to-southbound Route 65 ramp CLOSED
  • Closing Period: 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, until 10 p.m. Sunday, August 19
  • Signed Detour for Southbound Route 65: Westbound on Greene County Route AA to southbound Greene County Route H/Glenstone Avenue to I-44 (Exit 80)
  • Congestion expected at Glenstone Avenue/I-44 interchange. Drivers who can avoid this area are encouraged to find alternate routes.
• SOUTHBOUND ROUTE 65 AT I-44 CLOSED UNTIL LATE AUGUST
  • Westbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 closed
  • Southbound Route 65-to-eastbound I-44 closed
    • Signed Detours:
      • I-44 to Glenstone Avenue (Exit 80) to eastbound I-44 to southbound Route 65.
      • I-44 to westbound Route 744 (Exit 84)/Kearney Street to southbound Route 65
    • Nighttime ramp closings:
      • Eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65
      • Southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street
      • Work hours: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday, August 17
      • Signed detours in place
    • Nighttime lane closings on I-44 at times. One lane in each direction remains open. Work hours: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • Nighttime lane closings on northbound Route 65 at I-44 at times. One lane remains open. Work hours: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
    • I-44 speed limit at Route 65: 50 mph

  • Rebuild original 1970s-era southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between I-44 and Kearney Street
  • Rebuild southbound Route 65-to-Kearney Street ramp
  • Rebuild portion of eastbound I-44-to-southbound Route 65 ramp
• August 12-August 19
  • Rebuild original 1970s-era southbound Route 65 concrete pavement between Valley Water Mill Road (FRD 102) and I-44
• Upgrade guardrail
• Rebuild shoulders
• No work planned for northbound Route 65
• Prime Contractor: Millstone Weber, Inc. of St. Charles, Mo.
• Completion Date: November 2018 (However, contractor plans to complete project by late August.)
• Total Project Cost: $4.3 million
