HANNIBAL – Just in time for the beginning of the Hannibal school year, tomorrow morning, Saturday, August 11, drivers will be able to make left-hand turns on U.S. Route 61/McMaster’s Avenue. “Weather permitting, the orange ducks will be removed overnight tonight so McMaster’s will be back to five lanes early Saturday morning,” said Missouri Department of Transportation Area Engineer, Brian Haeffner, P.E.
The contractor will continue to do cleanup work around the sidewalks, along with other off-road details. Lane closures are not expected until the resurfacing begins on the entire 4 mile stretch of road, which will be toward the middle of September.
“We are waiting on the permanent traffic signal poles, and there will still be some sign and guard rail work that will need to be completed, so there may not be a lot of activity for a few weeks,” Haeffner explained.
He indicated traffic has flowed very smoothly through the work zone during the project. “We appreciate motorists taking it slowly, obeying the signs and making this a no phone zone during the project,” he said. There have been no known incidents in the work zone up to this point.
