JEFFERSON CITY – Safety professionals from across Missouri will gather on Friday for a press conference at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Headquarters in Jefferson City to kick off Missouri’s support for the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.
WHO: Safety professionals will be on hand to address Missouri’s impaired driving problem as they support the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign. Planned to speak are MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna, MSHP Superintendent Colonel Sandra Karsten, NHTSA Deputy Regional Administrator Jeff Halloran, and Officer Jared Swann from Joplin PD.

WHY: From 2015-2017, there were 540 fatal crashes and 1,488 serious injury crashes involving a substance-impaired driver. There were 612 people killed and 1,945 seriously injured in these crashes.
Each day, lives are drastically changed or lost in preventable traffic crashes caused by impaired driving. In 2017, 196 people were killed and 605 seriously injured in Missouri crashes that involved at least one substance-impaired driver. Last year, statewide law enforcement made 242 DWI arrests, 27 DUI drug arrests and 23 MIP’s during this campaign.
